Avalon

International Shibari / Kinbaku Master

Since the early 2000s, Avalon has brought the practice of Japanese rope bondage into the heart of Europe as one of its most authentic and respected ambassadors. His journey began with a single encounter: the visceral, mysterious beauty of a shibari performance in Paris captivated him and set him on a path that would soon lead to Japan, where he studied directly under renowned masters such as Osada Steve sensei, Yukimura Haruki sensei, and Nawashi Kanna sensei.

In 2015, Avalon settled in Melbourne, where he founded his own dojo and later the organization Peer Rope Melbourne, becoming a cornerstone for anyone wishing to approach shibari with seriousness, technique, and respect. His school is inclusive—open to anyone 18+ who wishes to explore the art of rope—but maintains a level of rigor and aesthetics that make the experience deeply refined.

Avalon’s style is distinctive and immediately recognizable:

  • A fusion of the precision of traditional Japanese bondage with a more fluid, sensory Western sensibility.
  • Ground work (newaza shibari) as a central element, where tension, touch, and response matter more than the perfection of the knot.
  • The belief that shibari is not about immobilization, but communication—a gesture that speaks, listens, and connects.
  • A strong emphasis on safety, ethics, and respect for one’s partner, all fundamental to his practice.

Within the Plume Noire Japan Tour 2026, Avalon takes on a key role—not only as a teacher, but as an authentic bridge between the European rope scene and Japan’s great masters. Thanks to his close relationships with them and his decades of experience, the event will offer exclusive workshops in private dojos—direct encounters with the essence of the art, rarely accessible to outsiders.

Participating in a session with Avalon means entering a space where technique, sensitivity, and art converge. It is not merely about learning a knot—it is about feeling the space, perceiving the body, and becoming part of a conscious act of connection.
